However, athletes like Michael Phelps, Kevin Love, and Simone Biles are changing this narrative by speaking openly about their struggles with mental health. This shift has led to greater awareness and acceptance of psychological issues in sports, with organizations and media outlets adapting to support athletes' mental well-being. The courage of these athletes is redefining athletic excellence, proving that mental toughness is just as important as physical toughness.
2025-03-21T23:27:19+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/8183The Rhythm of the Game: The Casino in Sports Life2025-03-21T23:23:02+00:00Mía Pizarroinfo02@efdeportes.com
Casinos in Mexico are more than just gambling venues. The research, with a quantitative approach, was conducted through an online questionnaire, yielding 42 valid responses. The results indicate that 78.57% of participants were familiar with the term "ageism," while 21.43% had never heard of it. Additionally, 62.5% reported experiencing prejudice in various contexts, such as work, commerce, family environments, and healthcare services. These findings reinforce the prevalence of ageism and align with previous research, which identifies this form of discrimination at individual, interpersonal, and institutional levels. The study highlights the need for public policies and educational campaigns to combat ageism and promote an inclusive and dignified perspective on aging. Although Brazil has laws protecting older adults, such as the Statute of the Elderly and the National Health Policy for Older Adults, the implementation of these regulations remains slow, compromising the effectiveness of these actions. The study concludes that intergenerational actions and awareness campaigns are essential to ensure respect and inclusion of older adults in society.
2025-03-02T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/7937Pressure Pain Tolerance Threshold in Women Practicing Classic versus Sedentary Ballet2025-03-02T21:21:54+00:00Jaqueline Leal Vieirajaquelinelv.fisio@gmail.comFábio Marcon Alfierifabiomarcon@bol.com.br
The exercise can interfere with the issue of pain perception. The objective of this study was to compare the pressure pain threshold in women practicing classical ballet versus those who are sedentary. To develop the research, an observational cross-sectional study was chosen in which 15 women aged between 18-45 years, ballet practitioners and 15 sedentary women participated. All the stages of this study were carried out in academies of dance and in the dependences of the university policlinic. The volunteers did evaluation of pressure pain threshold (PPT) with the algometer positioned in the points: vast medial, vast side, tendon patellar, erectors of the spine in the lumbar region at the level of the vertebral segment L4-L5, paravertebral, origin of the plantar fascia, average of the plantar fascia, first metatarsus and the fifth metatarsus. The data were analyzed using the SigmaStat statistical package and for comparison of the data between the groups, the t test for unpaired data or the Mann-Whitney test was used. Resulted: The results showed that the practicing women of ballet presented classic in all the points analyzed, bigger values of PPT what the group of the sedentary respected women, nevertheless, only paravertebral right and left, and the vast left medial they presented statistically significant differences. Conclusions: Practicing women of ballet present bigger PPT regarding sedentary women, nevertheless you punish two evaluated points: muscles paravertebral left/right and vast left medial are statistically significant between the groups.
2025-03-02T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/8023Personal Autonomy in Autistic Student through an Inclusive System of Psychomotor Activities in a Pre-Vocational Program2025-03-27T00:18:35+00:00Alcides Wilfrido Mora Veraawmorav@ube.edu.ecFabián Andrés Contreras Jáureguifabiancontreras@dcc.uniatlantico.edu.coGiceya de la Caridad Maqueira Caraballogdmaqueirac@ube.edu.ec
This study addressed the implications of psychomotor skills as a field of intervention for the care of an autistic student with high levels of support. The objective was to determine how the indicated inclusive system of psychomotor activities (ISPA) influenced his personal autonomy (PA). A case study was conducted, with volunteer sampling, whose methodology of analysis was guided by grounded theory, to elucidate the impact of the implementation of an ISPA on PA. The results showed the emergence of a theory whose central category is PA as an indicator of integral development, with substantive categories comprising four concepts: enhancing factors, conditioning factors, acquired experiences and behavioral manifestations. The associations identified revealed significant impacts generated by and on the categories. The development of the student's PA and the role assumed by the Physical Education teacher in the ISPA converge with scientific perspectives on autonomy as a category that represents more than executive independence. In conclusion, the ISPA designed generates a significant favorable impact on PA, with improvements that are not restricted to physical capacities and motor skills, since they also foster the student's capacity for adaptation, communication and active participation in different contexts, generating, in turn, a favorable impact on his or her integral development, communication and active participation in different contexts, generating, in turn, a favorable impact on his or her integral development.
2025-03-02T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/8014Association between Posture and Injuries in Professional Athletes from Montes Claros América Vôlei2025-03-02T19:06:36+00:00Wellington Danilo Soareswdansoa@yahoo.com.brRian Carlos Silva Santosriancarlos77713@gmail.comMarcos Araújo Barbozamarcos.barboza12@hotmail.comJomar Luiz Santos Almeidajomar_fisio@hotmail.com
Volleyball is widely played in Brazil and around the world, and it is characterized by less physical contact between players. Costa Rican cycling in those years was practiced on the main roads of the capital and the Central Valley because the best races for its execution were located there. The small and poor participation in international competitions allows us to affirm that this sport had an incipient development and with little sporting modernization. Cyclists such as the veteran Evangelista Chavarría stood out along with other riders such as José Antonio Cairol, Héctor Masis, Emilio Artavia, José Luis Sánchez, Saturnino Rustrián, José Manuel Soto and Carlos Alvarado among others.
2025-03-02T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/7680Acute Effect of Blood Flow Restriction and German Volume Training on Hemodynamics and Hypertrophy2025-03-22T19:37:12+00:00Ykalo Iago Aciole de Oliveiraykaloiago516@gmail.comDiego Almeida de Oliveiradiegoalmeidadeoliveira@hotmail.comAna Beatriz Fernandes Dias de Carvalhoanacarvalho.edfisica@gmail.comEdson Pedro Fidelis do Nascimentoedsonpedro2179@gmail.comErick Lourran Rodrigues de Oliveiraeri.lourran95@gmail.comSabrina Cartaxo Lacerda Mendes da Silvasabrinacartaxom@gmail.comElyakym Alvarenga Terto Vieiraelyakym@gmail.comTheodan Stephenson Cardoso Leitetheodanstephenson1@hotmail.comJean Paulo Guedes Dantasjean.dantas@facene.com.brGabriel Rodrigues Netogabrielrodrigues_1988@hotmail.com
The blood flow restriction (BFR) technique has been used to improve hemodynamics and muscle hypertrophy, but the combination of BFR with other training methods is a knowledge gap. Therefore, the aim of the study is to analyze the acute effect of the combination of BFR and German volume training (GVT) on hemodynamic and hypertrophic measurements (muscle pump) in recreationally trained men. Ten men participated in the study (25.5±6.1 years; 81.5±7.3 kg; 1.73±0.06 m; 27.2±2.4 kg*m²), who were subjected to randomized with an interval between sessions of 5-7 days. In this way, three protocols were performed: GVT plus BFR at forty percent of 1RM=GVT+BFR 40%; GVT at forty percent of 1RM=GVT 40%; GVT at eighty percent of 1RM=GVT 80%, with each protocol being conducted with biceps curl exercises. Hemodynamic measurements were analyzed [(systolic and diastolic blood pressure (DBP)], heart rate in the pre-test moments, immediately after, 15 and 30 minutes later. Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (muscle pump) was evaluated through perimetry in the pre- and post-intervention moments. All protocols significantly increased hemodynamic measurements (p<0.05) and all protocols generated a hypotensive effect on diastolic blood pressure (p<0.05). All protocols increased sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (p<0.05). It is concluded that the protocols promoted a hypotensive effect on DBP and increased hemodynamic measures within safety standards, also generating a muscle pump.
2025-03-01T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/7727Technology and Physical Education: A Warning for Human Relationships2025-03-02T18:46:15+00:00Alan Rodrigo Antunesantunes1846091@gmail.com
This article seeks to discuss the presence of technology in the area of Physical Education. The objective was to implement an inclusive strategy for the enhancement of the soccer teaching-learning process in a subject with ADHD. The adaptation of specific methods was used to teach soccer to the child with this condition, given his difficulty in maintaining attention and controlling impulsivity, which can affect his technical learning and sports performance. We worked with an accurately diagnosed child, with evident limiting characteristics to understand instructions and develop technical skills in soccer due to his lack of concentration and impulsivity. The central question was how an inclusive strategy can improve his learning process in this sport. The product of this work was an activity plan that included short sessions, clear instructions and individualized support to maximize their participation and learning. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the actions developed for learning soccer and also showed the promotion of inclusion of the child with ADHD in sports and social activities.
2025-02-04T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/7910Technological Hybridization in Non-Formal Physical Education2025-02-05T01:21:13+00:00Daniel Rodrigo Sancioddanielsancio@gmail.com
The aim of this essay was to reflect on the transformations that digital technologies have generated in the practice of physical exercise and the role of the Physical Education teacher, mainly in the non-formal sector. Through an epistemological lens, it explores how the use of technological devices, such as smartwatches and monitoring apps, redefines not only physical activity but also the interactions between teachers and students in virtual environments. Drawing from excerpts of three works by different authors, it argues that the technological "device" is not merely a passive instrument but an active agent that modulates the relationship between the body and the environment. The text delves into the hybridization of the physical and digital realms, arguing that this fusion allows for new forms of pedagogical support that transcend the direct supervision of the teacher. Additionally, it highlights the opportunities and challenges arising from the virtualization of training, as well as the need for physical education professionals to acquire competencies in the use of digital technologies. Finally, it emphasizes that this change is not merely technical but involves an epistemological and professional transformation that redefines the boundaries of the professional field, social interactions and motor skills in non-formal Physical Education of the 21st-century.
2025-02-04T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/8051Analysis of Speed in High School Students in the Area of Physical Education2025-02-05T01:04:22+00:00Ángel Luis Duránnduranp03@gmail.com
The objective of the present study was to analyze the speed times of high school students in order to establish performance categories. However, the unique characteristics of ADHD, such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, pose challenges for PE teachers. This study aims to review effective strategies that PE teachers can employ to enhance the learning experience for students with ADHD since it is extremely important to highlight the individual cognitive, motor, and social skills of children and young people. Key strategies include the implementation of structured and predictable routines, which help reduce anxiety and increase focus. Additionally, incorporating short, varied activities can cater to the limited attention spans typical of students with ADHD, keeping them engaged and motivated. Individualized instruction is critical, utilizing clear, concise instructions and frequent positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors. Breaks and physical activities interspersed with teaching can help manage hyperactivity and improve concentration. The use of visual aids and hands-on demonstrations can cater to diverse learning styles and enhance understanding. Moreover, collaboration with special education professionals and regular communication with parents can provide insights into each student's needs and progress, allowing for tailored interventions. Creating a supportive and inclusive environment is paramount, fostering peer relationships and minimizing stigmatization. These strategies collectively contribute to an effective PE program that accommodates the needs of students with ADHD, promoting their physical health, social development, and academic success. Book Presentation2025-01-10T19:50:00+00:00Jorge KnijnikJ.Knijnik@westernsydney.edu.au
This is a book written by a Brazilian-born Australian education and humanities academic where he writes about his passion, football, in his homeland and the continent to which he belongs. Exquisitely researched and written, the book captures the elegance of star players and the visceral struggles in South American societies, describing the social and political context of football on the continent, where the beautiful game is a force that divides and unites people. The backdrop of volatile politics, oppression and inequality on the continent is painted behind vignettes of football matches, players, politicians, and the sport itself. Each tale in the book manages to capture the heat, both political and literal, in its descriptions of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Chile and Uruguay, their beautiful games and their beautiful players. Tales of South American Football weaves the fabric of culture and sport into 13 chapters that offer the reader a path into the modern history and social realities of the region. Football is on every page. It is glorious, passionate and at times revolutionary.
2025-01-08T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/7940Discussions about Physical Education among Co-Learners of a Physical Education Faculty2025-01-10T19:13:24+00:00Sebastián Truebasebastiantrueba@gmail.comSol Bella Damborearenasolbedambo@gmail.comMaría Luz Smithluzsmith639@gmail.com
This essay revisits some of the discussions that emerged between the three authors of this text throughout the course of a subject in the fourth year of the physical education teacher training program. It explores certain conceptions of physical education and juxtaposes them with different theoretical standpoints, thus enabling a journey through a broad conceptual spectrum. In this way, it is believed that this text can contribute to the epistemologies of physical education while revealing more horizontal ways of constructing knowledge that challenge classical ideas of researching and presenting what has been produced. The singular senses of corporeality and motricity presented in the text are distinctive in that they are framed within the educational field rather than being subordinated to philosophy or other disciplines, which allows for an original and irreverent view of the topics addressed. These, in turn, attempt to alter the conditions of authority in the contemporary research field.
2025-01-08T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/7818The Olympic Oath: history and meaning of a symbol filled with honour2025-01-10T19:19:09+00:00Eduardo Antonio Pérez Restrepoeduperez203@hotmail.com
The Olympic oath, a central element of this article, constitutes an agreement of honor where athletes, judges and coaches commit themselves to strict compliance with the rules, respect for themselves and others, the Olympic spirit, fair play, in addition to assuming the duty to strive to the maximum for permanent improvement and fight for Olympic glory. With the growing number of individuals participating in this sport, expanding research on this phenomenon becomes essential. The objective of this study is to analyze the prevalence of osteomioarticular injuries, as well as contributing factors among cycling practitioners, comparing recreational and professional athletes in terms of demographic characteristics, training frequency and duration, as well as the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Method: A questionnaire was used to assess 132 cyclists, divided by age group, between recreational activities and professional athletes. It investigated the most prevalent injuries, the group most vulnerable to them, and the associated risk factors. Results: This study found a higher prevalence of knee injuries among both athletes and recreational cyclists. The two primary triggering factors for injuries were external hazards and negligence. The high prevalence of knee injuries aligns with various studies, especially among professionals, reaching 62%, with 17% having to discontinue the activity. Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, recreational cyclists exhibit a higher occurrence of injuries when compared to athletes, with most of these injuries lacking a specific triggering factor during physical activity. Additionally, the knee is the most commonly affected area due to negligence and external hazards, affecting both athletes and recreational cyclists alike.
2025-01-08T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/7791Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders in Employees of an Educational Institution2025-01-10T19:32:46+00:00Paulo Roberto Santos Lopespauloroberto@unidavi.edu.brJosie Budag Matsudajosie@unidavi.edu.brLuiz Otávio Matsudamatsuda@unidavi.edu.brAna Inês Gonzálesana.gonzales@unidavi.edu.br
Introduction: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are multifactorial conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system, resulting in dysfunction and physical limitations. Objective: To assess the prevalence of WMSD in employees of an educational institution in southern Brazil. Methods: Five self-administered questionnaires were administered, covering sociodemographic characteristics, musculoskeletal disorders, physical activity level (PAL), quality of life (QOL) and quality of life at work (QOLW). Results: The study included 103 participants, with 35.9% male and 64.1% female. The prevalence of WMSD was highest in the lumbar (73.8%) and cervical (69.8%) regions, with the most frequent symptom intensity observed in the lumbar region (mean of 3.9). Regarding QOL, a low score was found in the vitality domain (59.13 ± 20.37), while functional capacity (83.35 ± 19.57) and limitations due to physical aspects (82.52 ± 29.04) showed higher scores. In terms of QOLW, the personal domain had the highest mean (4.25 ± 0.56), while the Physical/Health domain had the lowest mean (3.32 ± 0.40). As for PAL, 35.9% of participants were classified as active, while 6.8% were classified as sedentary. Conclusions: A high prevalence of WMSD was observed in the lumbar and cervical regions. Although QOL was generally satisfactory, vitality scores were found to be compromised. While most participants were classified as active, it is important to promote awareness regarding the role of physical activity in preventing musculoskeletal disorders and improving QOLW.
2025-01-08T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/7384Active Lifestyles and Healthy Habits on Primary School Children2025-01-10T19:40:54+00:00Mariana Caramelo Duartemarianacarameloduarte@gmail.comRui Nevesrneves@ua.pt
The present study was centered on the relationships between the motor performance of primary school children, their lifestyle habits and the influence of the family and school context. The results demonstrate significant improvements in psychomotor development, including balance, coordination and motor skills, as well as notable advances in socioemotional and cognitive aspects. The research, supported by quantitative assessments using the Test of Psychomotor Development (TEPSI) and qualitative feedback from parents and therapists, provides evidence that the customization of functional exercises not only enhances physical development but also promotes autonomy and social integration. The findings underline the importance of incorporating EFA programs in educational and therapeutic settings, highlighting their contribution to a comprehensive intervention that significantly improves the quality of life of adolescents with ASD and their families.
2025-01-08T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/7183The Menstrual Period and the Performance of Strength Training by Young Athletes2025-01-14T00:50:35+00:00Jéssica Martins Felixjessicafelix141315@gmail.comFlávio Avelino Bezerraflavioavelino1991@gmail.comRitchele Diego Almeida Freitasritchelearthur@gmail.comCaio Vinícius Silvacaioviniciusgba@hotmail.comMaiara Alves Nascimento Araújomaiaraanascimento13@gmail.comJoão Antonio Silva Araújojoaooaaraujo@gmail.com
With the female participation in sport, interest in studies related to the signs and symptoms of premenstrual tension and the influence of hormones on strength training among young athletes is essential. The aim of this study was to carry out a critical review of the available literature in order to describe the influences of the menstrual period on the performance of strength training among young athletes. This is a literature review of the literature with a synthesis of the greatest scientific evidence. The databases consulted were Lilacs, Scielo and Pubmed and the descriptors used were: Menstrual Period; Strength Training; Athletes; crossed with each other by the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR”. Seven articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included, one cross-sectional study, three field studies, two controlled clinical trials and one prevalence with tracking study. The phase of the menstrual cycle with the highest concentration of estrogen and progesterone is the luteal phase, which has the greatest positive influence on the performance of strength training by young athletes, as this makes women support greater loads and perform more repetitions.
2025-01-08T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deporteshttps://test.efdeportes.com/index.php/EFDeportes/article/view/8097Messi: Image, Economy and Business2025-01-07T19:52:39+00:00Bill Grantinfo10@efdeportes.com
The world of investments, especially online, offers numerous opportunities but also entails risks. Forex trading is a speculative activity that requires knowledge and caution. When investing, it is crucial to consider the spread, that is, the difference between the purchase and sale price of an asset. Lionel Messi, beyond being a sports icon, has ventured into the world of business. His investments in hotels, clothing and now in the real estate sector position him as an entrepreneur. However, although his image attracts investors, it is essential to remember that any investment, even in projects associated with recognized figures, involves risks. The world of investments is complex and requires detailed analysis and informed decision-making. Messi's figure may be attractive, but it should not be the only factor to consider when evaluating an investment opportunity.
2025-01-07T19:52:39+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Lecturas: Educación Física y Deportes
