Abstract

Introduction: sleep is extremely important and necessary for a healthy life, being responsible for the physical and cognitive growth of adolescents. Objective: this study aims to identify the importance of sleep / rest on adolescent’s health. Method: it is an Integrative Literature Review that included articles published between 2014 and 2018. The search was carried out, using PUBMED (US National Library of Medicine) and BVS (Virtual Health Library) as databases and "Sleep AND Adolescent Health", as the descriptors. Results: 23 articles were found, of which only 10 were selected for having met the study objective. The articles showed that the number of adolescents with low sleep duration is high. They also indicate that this lack of sleep has a strong impact on focus and academic performance. Conclusion: reducing time exposure to electronic devices and encouraging physical activity and a healthy diet can improve sleeping habits among adolescents.
