Double product as parameter of prescription of exercises and as predictor of the consumption of oxygen
Abstract
The Double Product (DP) is considered as an important non-invasive method used to the prescription of physical exercises and determination of mVO2. According to this perspective, the present study aimed to gather information about the performance of DP in patients with cardiopathies. This study is characterized as a systematic review. The research was performed in the databases MEDLINE, SciELO and LILACS, through the descriptors: double product, consumption of oxygen and resistance exercise in a period between 2000 and 2012. After elimination of useless articles to the theme, 10 articles were selected to compose the review. The results obtained indicated lack of studies focused on the topic concerned. However, studies performed previously allow to conclude that resistance exercises may be prescribed and followed safely in patients with cardiopathies. The exercises were determined by the DP parameter aiming to estimate the cardiac effort through its conversion in mVO2, provided that the same be done in an individualized way which meets the needs of each patient. It is expected, through this review, the increment of the knowledge of DP, mVO2 as well as to contribute to the development of investigative interventions at the future.
