Physical Preparation for Long-Distance Travel in Sports Competitions
Abstract
Long-term air travel can be harmful to the body, especially in economy class due to the narrow space that must be occupied during the flight. Sitting still for a long time can be risky for the cardiovascular system in particular, as well as for health in general. Formation of thrombi or clots can occur in the veins of the lower extremities, derived from poor blood circulation. Exercising, wearing comfortable clothes to facilitate circulation, staying in a good posture to avoid strains and contractures, as well as not eating copious meals before or during the trip are preventive measures that help reduce the risk.
