Specific Endurance in Olympic Taekwondo: A Training Proposal
Abstract
Olympic taekwondo refers to the modality of combat that reached the Olympic level in the 2000s. Advances in the analysis of sporting competition and scientific research in recent decades have promoted paradigm shifts in sports training. The substantive differences between acyclic sports with respect to cyclic sports, in that the former present significant variations in the intensity, duration, frequency, kinetics and kinematics of muscular actions during competition, have been central foundations for analyzing and developing new training strategies. In this sense, this descriptive research, conceived from a practical field, is directed to the study of the specific endurance for the taekwondist. The objectives of this work are: (1) to specify the concept of specific endurance for Taekwondo; (2) to analyze the structure of the competition and identify the physiological demands from its intermittent dynamics, and (3) to propose guidelines for the training of the taekwondist's specific endurance.
