Effects of Quick Massage in Stress of Physical Activity
Abstract
Massage is a great ally in Oriental medicine, and although little used in the sport, its greater diffusion has been through the methods of anti-stress relaxation. Therefore, the objective of this study was to verify if a rapid massage protocol acts positively on the stress of young adults practicing regular physical activity. Thirty-two young adults, divided into a control group (n = 15, age: 22.73 ± 3.26 years) and experimental (n = 17, age: 23.00 ± 2.81 years) participated in the study. The massage was performed in standard ergonomic chair extension project in massage work. Each session lasted 15 to 20 minutes, twice a week for 6 weeks. The protocol used focused on muscle relaxation. Stress was measured through a questionnaire of 20 questions, developed by the Institute for the Advancement of Science "Max Planck" (Germany) and the Institute of Psychology of the University of Sao Paulo. In addition, it was possible to observe a significant difference between the groups (p = 0.001). Therefore, we conclude that relaxing massage may be an auxiliary tool in anti-stress treatment for young adults. However, we recommend that it not be applied uniquely in anti-stress treatment.
