Facial Recognition Technology in Soccer: Debates and Perspectives

  • Francisco Baldinelli Independiente

Abstract

Facial recognition technology has supporters and detractors. The first ensure that it is an identification system that can collaborate effectively in public safety. Detractors question its effectiveness since they argue that it was created based on certain gender and skin color biases and at the same time it is a technological resource that is in conflict with fundamental laws and therefore it is an advance towards the elimination of basic rights of people. The debate is also present when its use for security in soccer stadiums is proposed.
