Auriculotherapy and Resisted Physical Exercise in Improving the Quality of Life of Hemodialysis Patients

Abstract

Loss of quality of life is a common finding in patients with chronic kidney disease during hemodialysis and is associated with the development of other pathological processes, as well as the progression of the disease itself. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of auriculotherapy and resistance physical exercise, associated or not, with non-pharmacological therapies on the quality of life of chronic renal patients undergoing hemodialysis. The sample was divided into 4 groups: Control Group, Auriculotherapy Group, Resistance Physical Exercise Group, Auriculotherapy + Resistance Physical Exercise Group. Quality of life was analyzed using the 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36). For statistical analyses, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and the Dixon test for outliers were used, later the Willcoxon and two-way ANOVA tests using the Statistica® 8.0 software (STATSOFT). Aspects of quality of life improved (p≤0.05) in all intervention groups, emphasizing the association between auriculotherapy and resistance physical exercise, which had an impact on all components. The application of auriculotherapy treatments and resisted physical exercise in hemodialysis patients served as tools to increase the perception of quality of life, being complementary alternatives to conventional and conservative treatment.
