Abstract

The purpose of this manuscript is to review the book: “Sports and Physical Education: identity and mission”, a collection published in 2021, organized by the illustrious Professor Jorge Olímpio Bento and contributed by big names in Brazilian Physical Education. The work was constructed with 31 chapters and focused on questions about some dimensions that are part of the identity and mission of Physical Education and sport on the international scene. This is a collection with themes of interest to all students, teachers and professionals in Physical Education and sport, with reflections and criticisms that go beyond the borders of Portuguese-speaking countries and are based on the facets of the game, sport, corporeality, sports pedagogy, school sports, sociology, health and physical exercise.
