Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Set-Piece Actions in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar

Abstract

Game analysis has been considered extremely important to understand the competitive particularities of football, given the number of authors who are dedicated to studying this issue for sports. This interest is produced, above all, by game analysis generating information that provides adaptation to the training of players, valuing the principle of specificity and biological individuality. Furthermore, patterns of behavior are observed that are repeated systematically during games, which on occasions are related to the success of a team in relation to the behavior of the opposite team. The objective of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the execution of the set piece actions during the 64 matches of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Based on the principles of observational methodology, a systematic analysis of football matches based on videos and statistics was carried out. Official party videos are available through the FIFA YouTube channel. This study presents reference values for game statistics and demonstrates which aspects of the game differ between winning, losing and tied teams in football. This profile helps the trainer to prepare training sessions according to this specificity and to be prepared to control these variables in competition.
