Prevention of Ankle Injuries by Neuromuscular Activation in Professional Basketball Players

A Systematic Review

Abstract

Neuromuscular activation is a system used by trainers and physical coaches, but few studies have proposed a practical sequence for its application prior to official matches to prevent injuries. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of ankle injuries prevention through neuromuscular activation in professional basketball players. This research followed the PRISMA systematic review methodology. Articles from databases such as Google Scholar, Taylor & Francis, and PubMed, published from 2019 to 2023, were reviewed. The limited findings suggest that neuromuscular activation is effective in systematic programs, considering essential guidelines: a duration of 8-10 minutes, exercises involving running combined with active stretching, plyometrics, balance, strength, and basketball-specific agility. Future experimental studies and intervention programs would be advisable to reinforce the current limited evidence on this topic.
