Statistics and Curiosities of the Copa América: Surprising Data from the Tournament

Abstract

The Copa America is a tournament with a long history that brings together soccer fans throughout the continent. The event had its origins in 1916 with teams from South America. The most winning teams are Uruguay (with 15 titles), Argentina (15) and Brazil (9). Norberto "Tucho" Méndez (from Argentina) and Zizinho (from Brazil) are the top scorers. It is an event that, beyond soccer, is the scene of moments of glory, perseverance and surprises. In short, it is a rich tradition that weaves a legacy of passion and soccer.
