Abstract

The Euro 2024 in Germany is marking a milestone in terms of the implementation of cutting-edge technology to optimize the development of matches. Among the new features, the semi-automatic VAR stands out, which incorporates artificial intelligence to assist referees in more precise and faster decisions; the ball with sensors (Connected Ball) that detects touches and movements with high precision, allowing plays such as handballs and offsides to be validated with greater certainty; Goal Line Technology (GLT) that instantly confirms goals through 7 cameras per goal; and Semi-Automatic Offside Technology (SAOT) which uses 10 cameras and 29 body reference points to accurately determine player positions and eliminate errors in offside plays. These innovations, together with the FTECH HUB as a control center, are revolutionizing football and promise to continue transforming the sport in the coming years.
