Study on bullying, concepts and applications in school and Physical Education classes

Abstract

Violence becomes a worrying factor in the society. It can be observed specially in the school comprising the health and education of the students. Objective: To investigate students` basic knowledge about bullying at school and in Physical Education classes. Method: cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out on 53 students aged 11 to 18 of both genders, a semi-structured questionnaire with closed questions was applied. Results: Bullying were expressive in both genders as a part of the reality of the students evaluated. It was found that 83% of students evaluated already suffer bullying and 79% already practiced with their colleagues. The most relevant cause, reported in the study, was the practice of bullying as self-defense. Conclusion: These findings point to a greater need for social action in the quest to provide students with a more respectful environment and reduce possible psychological problems related to the practice of bullying.
