Isotonic Ingestion in Sports and its Influence on Non-Carious Cervical Lesion

Abstract

The Sport Dentistry it is committed to disseminating to athletes, as well as to the entire population, the importance of oral health and life skills for integral health maintenance. The article aims to evaluate through the literature review the influence of isotonics on non-carious cervical lesion. The methodology used was based on research in seven databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Lilacs, Scielo, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and Google Scholar, published between the years 2002 and 2019. The results recovered 220 publications. After reading the titles and abstracts, 63 papers were conducted for full reading. With 36 exclusions, 27 publications were considered to elaborate the synthesis of the article. It was concluded that the low endogenous pH of the isotonics is a significant factor to dissolve the hydroxyapatite crystals of the dental structures, presenting an extrinsic factor for the formation of the non-carious cervical lesion.
