Periodization for Combat Sports: An Innovative Approach in Line with their Specific Demands

Abstract

Periodization is an art, from which training is organized in order to achieve the highest performance of athletes at the time of competition. In the case of combat athletes, the demands of the various modalities present a high complexity, requiring the formulation of programs that allow them to be prepared appropriately. Although there are periodization models that have emerged specifically for these activities, the science of training continues to advance and allows us to formulate new proposals based on a wealth of information, together with the experience of each coach. The objective of this paper is to present an innovative periodization system, which is proposed as a variant for the preparation of combat athletes.
