The study of games and sports in Yucatan. An approach from Social Anthropology

Abstract

This article presents an overview of the degree work carried out to obtain the degree of Social Anthropologist at the Autonomous University of Yucatan, from 1976-2017, with the main theme of games and sports. Through a review of the library of the Autonomous University of Yucatan and the digital database of the Social Anthropology Degree, it was found that only 3% of the students' terminal works had some aspect of the study as their subject. field of games and sports. This reveals the little interest of the students to investigate aspects related to these topics. A striking situation given the relevance that these activities have acquired in our society during the last decades of the twentieth century. The results obtained through the analysis of the titling work allow us to observe how in Yucatan games and sports constitute social and integrating practices that have contributed to reinforce local and national identities, facilitating, in addition, that both children and adolescents gain autonomy, develop interpersonal bonds and generate spaces conducive to the development of the personality.
