TeamGym: an Upward Competitive Gymnastics Discipline
Abstract
The improvement of new technologies has revealed an important role for the development of Gymnastics, allowing the emergence of new practices, among which TeamGym stands out, a competitive gymnastic modality that emerged in the beginning of the 21st century in Europe. In this sense, the objective of this work lies in discussing the development of TeamGym in Europe, analyzing, also, its most expressive characteristics. To this end, a research was developed based on documentary and bibliographic analysis. Were selected 57 documents: 8 articles, 26 bachelor’s thesis, 18 master's thesis and 5 official regulations. The data obtained show that, although recent, the modality has a growing adhesion in Europe with interest of countries in other continents. Therefore, we conclude that joint actions are necessary between institutions, national and international federations, as well as researchers and specialists, so that the sport can develop beyond the European continental context.
