Comparison of Declarative Tactical Knowledge among Young Basketball Players

Abstract

The aim of the study was to compare the level of Declarative Tactical Knowledge among basketball athletes in the under-12 and under-13 categories of a sports institution. Forth seven boys participated in the study, 27 from the under-12 category and 20 from the under-13 category. All are male, train at least twice a week and are linked to the Minas Gerais Basketball Federation. The Instrument to Measure Declarative Tactical Knowledge for Basketball (IMDTK-Bb) was used. The instrument consists of 17 scenes, 10 passing scenes, 3 throwing, and 5 infiltrating, corresponding to 13 attack scenes and 4 counterattack scenes. The Mann-Whitney test was used to compare scores between categories, considering a significance level of 95%. Under-12 students had a median score of 25.00 points. Athletes in the under-13 category achieved a median score of 33.00 points (z=-2.219; p=.026). The comparison between the groups showed that the athletes from the under-13 category had a higher level of declarative tactical knowledge acquisition (KTD) than the students from the under-12 category. The measurement of declarative tactical knowledge in students from basketball youth categories is an important tool for diagnosing performance levels and evaluating the impact of the teaching-learning process.
